The Alberta floods of June 2013 impacted thousands of homes, and 75,000 people were evacuated from 26 Calgary neighbourhoods, including Bowness , where Neil Liske resides. His basement and studio were severely damaged, he lost almost everything in the flood and contemplated whether he'd ever throw clay or fire up his kiln again.

Neil found new inspiration and his spirits were lifted by the community outpouring of support. During the clean up, he had collected the thick layer of silt that covered everything in his basement, wondering if it would make an interesting glaze. After recovering from the flood's impact he began to create again and tested the silt glaze in his first firing, and liked it!

Voilà - this soft earthy green glaze is the result.

(The characters represent PEACE and HAPPINESS, which Neil sincerely wishes for you.)
