Tales from the Highwood Cemetery: Lives and Legacies of High River and Beyond

When the former Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta and respected history professor was quizzed by students looking for a good source of interesting stories, Dr. Grant MacEwan advised them to have a wander through High River’s Highwood Cemetery, famously stating, “There is enough history there to fill several books.” In her latest release, Tales from the Highwood Cemetery: Lives and Legacies of High River and Beyond, author D. Larraine Andrews reveals some of the tantalizing tales concealed by the cemetery’s staid and orderly markers. Lavishly illustrated throughout, the book uses twelve themed chapters, each with detailed maps and an introduction to provide historical context, to tell some of the remarkable stories of the men and women who were fundamental to the evolution of the community, the province, and the country.
