Working under the name Little Sister Pottery, Dawn Candy creates functional ceramics inspired by rhythm, pattern, and landscape - both wild and cultivated, and by natural forces including wind and tide. The pieces are mainly formed on the wheel and then further developed intuitively by altering the shape, adding clay or carving it away. Her work features strong visual edges and dynamic texture, designed to indulge not only the eye but the hand. As the pottery is used throughout daily living Dawn hopes it conveys a sense of elegance, but also the wonder and playfulness she feels in making it.
Dawn earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Lethbridge where she studied world religions, analytic philosophy and history. She then went on to achieve her diploma in Visual Art from Red Deer College. Currently she teaches several community art classes in addition to making her own work.
