Dale Kirschenman grew up on the prairies near Medicine Hat, Alberta. His paintings derive from his life and experience in the vastness of the western Canadian landscape. Dale studied painting at the Alberta University of the Arts, graduating in 1998 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting.  He is a juried member of the Alberta Society of Artists and an active member of The Leighton Foundation and other local art organizations.

Kirschenman has always been an avid outdoor enthusiast. Over the years, he has hiked, cycled, skied, and painted in the Western Canadian landscape. His photographs and his experience in the wild provide the creative impetus for his painting.  He is fascinated with the effects of light and atmosphere, and the ethereal nature of many of his paintings suggests the idea of the sublime or the spiritual in the natural world.

Dale has held painting classes and workshops at various institutions and in his home studio. His paintings are present in the collection of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Civic Art Collection of the City of Calgary as well as numerous private and corporate collections in Canada, the U.S.A. and abroad.  Living and working in Calgary, the surrounding landscapes continue to influence and inspire his work.
