Forest Breathing: Mindy Andrews, George Fenwick, Alice Helwig | August 20 - September 8, 2016
Opening Reception 6 - 8pm, Saturday, August 20th, 2016
"A clay artist, painter and a composer; you might think that they have little in common. Yet, as artists we find the imprint of our early environments - the coniferous forests of Northwestern Ontario, the prairie cottonwoods of Southern Alberta and the larches of the alpine ranges of the Bow Valley.
These environments impact our work. Forest Breathing is an exploration of the creative process, with the common motif of trees. The inquiry, in this joint exhibit, is how trees influence our artistic lives."
Let's celebrate forests and trees - inspired by the terms "forest bathing" (from a Japanese practice known as "shinrin yoku") - and the work of three regional artists who are collaborating to bring together their art forms. Mindy Andrews is a ceramic artist, George Fenwick is a musician and composer, and Alice Helwig a painter.
The show will feature interactive elements such as QR codes that will take the viewer to soundbites of George's music, environmental sounds such as birdsongs, or the artist describing their work and the creative process.
