Eleanor Lowden’s love of art began very early and she has always expressed an interest in learning as well as making art. Eleanor studied fine arts at the University of Western Ontario and continued her studies in art and watercolor at the Ontario College of Art, the Alberta College of Art and through various workshops to broaden her scope.
Eleanor and her family made Calgary their home for fourteen years. In 2015 she moved back to Toronto where she maintains a studio in her home and continues to paint the people and the landscape that inspire her.
Eleanor’s passion for art is about color. She employs color to express how she feels about a subject and her work is recognizable for its particularly vibrant palette. She simplifies shapes in order to draw with her brush and layers colors so that they glow. Much of her inspiration comes from the autumn colors which are especially brilliant in northern Ontario. Eleanor works in watercolour and acrylic. Both mediums offer the freedom to explore colors as vibrant and exciting as her imagination.
A large part of Eleanor’s learning comes through teaching art. She has taught the drawing class at the University of Calgary, Certificate Program and teaches “Courageous Watercolor” and acrylic painting workshops at various venues in and around Toronto. She has published an instructional watercolor DVD titled “Courageous Watercolour” to share her bold style of watercolour with other artists.
