We are surrounded by yesterdays and tomorrows and today is easily overlooked and taken for granted. I’ve spent most of the last year working on a project that dug deep into family history while considering how our past impacts the future. That work was heavy and combined with life’s many distractions, I found it difficult to settle in and work on a new body of work. Through all this a close family member fought a particularly aggressive cancer.
In June after a sad update, I wrote a note to myself and stuck it on my easel. The note is simple, saying only “Today Is A Good Day”, and serves as a reminder to set yesterday’s regret and tomorrow’s fear aside and get on with living each day. These paintings are about living and not just surviving.
Life is art and art is life. Both demand courage and audacity.
Today Is A Good Day
To make good trouble
To love fiercely and without conditions
To celebrate both the mundane and the marvellous
To remember others and show compassion
To help one another and above all to be human.
