As a child Lisa was fascinated with the differences between organic textures, landscapes and animals – recording her observations in journals filled with drawings and paintings.  However, the day she discovered clay, dug from the riverside near her home… there was love at first touch.  The endless possibilities clay provided in respect to size and surface quality was the perfect way for Lisa to interpret her surroundings.
Excited by the versatility of this medium and its rich historical background Lisa entered the Ceramics Program at the Alberta College of Art and Design.  Upon graduation with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Lisa began her professional career as Supervisor of the Ceramics program with the Wildflower Arts Centre in Calgary.

Lisa maintains her practice in Calgary; creating, exhibiting and teaching.  As an adult, the natural world is still the focus of Lisa’s creativity, both as an artist and as an individual.

Lisa McGrath was born in London, Ontario, Canada; however she has made Calgary, Alberta her home since 1989.
