Claire Uhlick grew up near Ardrossan, Alberta, a small town east of Edmonton.  She studied fine arts at Grant MacEwan and the University of Alberta, where she received her BFA in 2009 with a major in painting.  Among other interests, her paintings reflect the rural landscape of her family’s acreage.  She captures the movement and life in these environments with dynamic expressionistic brushstrokes.

In the last few years, Claire’s work has expanded from painting to include sculpture and mixed media installation art.  In 2008, Claire designed and created “Kinein,” a public art commission for the University of Alberta with Nancy Schulz.  The project was part of the University’s centennial year celebrations and is a permanent site specific artwork in the Van Vliet centre on campus.  Claire recently finished her second public art commission, “Through the Tides,” a project of over 100 handcrafted ceramic tiles which were installed at Servus Place Aquatic Centre in St. Albert in June 2011.
