Putting a Spin on What Inspires Us

…with thanks to our guest writer, Brooke Campbell

NOTE:  Bluerock Gallery artist Liz Sullivan will have many more pieces from her ‘Ride for Life’ art series on display at the Sheep River Library in Turner Vallery starting June 17, 2011.

I was in the Bluerock Gallery recently and Karen showed me an art piece by Liz Sullivan. Liz and her husband participated in the 2010 200-plus kilometre Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer, benefiting the Alberta Cancer Foundation. You can see just how inspiring the experience must have been, because her ‘Ride for Life’ series is truly amazing. Read more about her journey.

Liz’s paintings got me thinking about the energy that an event like the Enbridge ride, combined with the natural beauty surrounding cyclists riding through our foothills creates. On a blue sky, no wind (I know those days are rare) summer day, the combination is awe-inspiring.

I always enjoy cycling through Black Diamond and Turner Valley as the summer months roll around, and this year, I was very excited to learn that the Gran Fondo Rockies will be going through Bluerock Gallery’s neck of the woods. The event distances vary from a 60km Piccolo Fondo, all the way up to the 170km Gran Fondo. With the events starting in nearby Nanton, it is sure to be a great weekend! While you are in the area, don’t forget to visit the Bluerock Gallery in Black Diamond, check out the local artists…and get inspired!
